Naomi Long MEP visits Youth Lyric festivals!

Our long time supporter, Mrs. Naomi Long MEP was guest of honour at our recent festival. Naomi has been a great advocate for the work of Youth Lyric and was full of praise for the work of our charity and in particular the skills demonstrated in performance by our very talented students!

Naomi received a gift of Belfast Crystal engraved with the Youth Lyric logo from Siún and Aislinn and is also pictured with students, staff and our festival adjudicators Aileen Browne and William Scott.

Our fabulous administrator Rachel Robinson recently attended a dinner honouring Speaker of the House of Commons Mr. John Bercow MP. Rachel was delighted to present Mr. Bercow with a personalised Youth Lyric hoodie!

Youth Lyric Festival June 2019

We are really looking forward to our festivals on 1st and 8th June at CFC 10 Belmont Road.  Students are reminded to arrive one hour before the festival starts. On arrival please only use the Holywood Road entrance, unless a disabled access is required, in which case please call us on 07710618289 and Rachel will meet you at the Belmont Road entrance.

You can purchase your Festival Tickets, (£5 per adult, children free) plus any raffle tickets (£1 per strip or 6 strips for £5) on arrival and enjoy your hot drink and tray bake while you wait in the foyer for the performances to begin in the main auditorium.

Leading Solicitor joins Youth Lyric Board of Trustees!

Catherine Cooney, a partner in the prestigious law firm Worthingtons Solicitors, has kindly accepted an invitation to join the Youth Lyric Board of Trustees. Catherine is familiar with our work through attending productions and is looking forward to being part of the team.

Speaking about her appointment Catherine said:

“I was very pleased indeed to be asked to serve on the Youth Lyric Board of Trustees and know from their performances that the charity does terrific work.”

YOUTH LYRIC DRAMA CLASSES

YOUTH LYRIC DRAMA CLASSES

Saturdays 9-10am in Orchard Building, Stranmillis College

Ages: Primary 1-3   Cost: £90.00 per term

Youth Lyric offers a unique, infant class tailored to Foundation years developing creativity and confidence and early performance skills. This class is delivered by an experienced choreographer and fully qualified Key Stage 1 teacher (both Access NI approved) and embeds the skills required for their initial/Grade 1 Trinity Performing Arts certificate.

Our infant students have the opportunities to both audition for our annual production and attend outside casting requests.

Tutors attend prestigious training course

We were delighted that three members of our teaching team, Sheelagh O’Kane, Ali Donovan and Paula Carson-Lewis (pictured with Theatre NI’s Niamh Flanagan) were able to attend a recent weekend training course run by Theatre NI and Youth Theatre Ireland.

The course was was led by leading theatre practitioner Dave Kelly and held in The Garage Theatre, Monaghan.  Our colleagues participated in an intensive programme of workshops with teachers drawn from schools across Ireland and look forward to the next stage of the programme.

Trip to Stratford upon Avon 2019

Youth Lyric will depart for Stratford upon Avon on Friday 30th August returning on Sunday 1st September 2019. The trip is open to students who will be in post primary schools at the time of departure.

We will enjoy a backstage tour, shopping time, great food and a world class production of As You Like It! Cost is to be confirmed but it will around £300 per pupil.

One of Northern Ireland’s most popular and successful broadcasters Carolyn Stewart has accepted an invitation to join the Youth Lyric Board of Trustees. Carolyn is familiar with our work and is looking forward to being part of the team.
